What is PRP Therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses the body’s own natural mechanisms of healing to restore, regenerate, and refresh facial tissues. Platelet rich plasma within the blood contains a broad range of growth factors that aid in the body’s natural healing processes. When isolated from the rest of the blood and reinjected back into the body, this growth-factor-rich plasma accelerates the natural healing process, rapidly rebuilding the tissues in the area where it is injected.
While PRP therapy is used in a wide variety of both cosmetic and medical treatments, it can be particularly beneficial to patients interested in facial rejuvenation that doesn’t require surgery, lasers, or extensive downtime. The PRP facial and PRP facelift are two of the most popular PRP-based treatments available today.
The PRP facial harnesses the rejuvenating power of the body’s own platelet rich plasma to tackle wrinkles, fine lines, and skin laxity. Before treatment begins, a small amount of blood is extracted from the patient and processed through a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma cells from the rest of the blood. Once the platelet rich plasma cells have been isolated, these cells are carefully reinjected back into the patient’s face using micro-needling technology. This both reintroduces healing PRP cells into the facial tissues and stimulates the production of additional collagen and elastin.
A PRP facelift is a more comprehensive version of the PRP facial, as it combines the healing power of platelet rich plasma therapy with hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, to tighten and rejuvenate facial skin. This treatment can be used to bring a youthful contour to the face, adding volume and definition to the patient’s appearance. Best of all, PRP facelifts are completely non-invasive and bring patients absolutely no downtime.
A PRP facelift treatment begins when a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient. This blood is then processed through a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma cells from the rest of the blood. These isolated platelet cells are then reinjected into the face. Once this process is complete, dermal fillers are strategically injected near problem areas to add extra volume and fullness.
