Micro-needling

As women get older, they can begin to accumulate skin imperfections that may make them feel self-conscious about their appearances. Events like childbirth can leave women with stretch marks and scars, and the simple passage of time can lead to the development of wrinkles, pigmentation, and fine lines. Because Georgia Center for Female Health is committed to providing women with the clinical care they need to look and feel their best at every stage of life, we’re proud to offer our patients access to MDPen micro-needling treatments.

What is Micro-Needling?

Also referred to as collagen induction therapy, micro-needling is an effective, minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that uses the body’s own natural process of healing to rejuvenate the skin. The entire treatment is chemical-free and involves only a brief period of downtime.

At Georgia Center for Female Health, we’re proud to use the MDPen for all of our micro-needling procedures. This device is one of the safest and most effective methods of micro-needling available today.

How Does it Work?

During a micro-needling treatment, a series of ultra-fine needles are passed over the surface of the skin. These needles create micro-injuries that are large enough to begin the body’s healing process, but small enough to prevent significant downtime. Because the epidermis remains intact, patients experience little to no scarring.

What can it be used to Treat?

Micro-needling can used to improve the appearance of a wide range of skin imperfections, including:

  • Photoaging
  • Skin laxity
  • Scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Wrinkles

What can I Expect from Treatment?

Before a micro-needling treatment begins, a topical anesthetic is applied to the surface of the skin to ensure patients are as comfort as they can be during the procedure. The amount of time that each treatment takes varies depending on the size of the treatment area and the extent of damage there.

Following treatment, most patients need between three and four days of rest to fully recover. While a single treatment can bring patients some aesthetic improvements, multiple sessions are usually necessary to obtain dramatic, lasting results.

Am I a Candidate?

Nearly anyone interested in improving the overall quality of her skin is a potential candidate for a micro-needling treatment. However, it’s important to keep in mind that patients that have used Accutane in the past six months, have open wounds, cuts, or abrasions, have received radiation treatment in the past year, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring cannot safely undergo a micro-needling treatment.
